For Collect SMS, customer can send an SMS even when he is out of credit. Price of the SMS sent will be deducted from his/her correspondent's account.
Emtel EPin – customers can now recharge their prepaid account with as low as Rs. 20 (VAT incl.) through this electronic system and from all usual dealers.
In August, Emtel introduced Emtel Favourite Numbers. This service allows prepaid subs to register up to 3 Emtel numbers as their favourite numbers and benefit from the lowest prepaid tariffs on the market. Calls towards their favourite numbers are billed 96 cents instead of Rs. 1.20, representing savings of 24 cents/minute on each call.
November 19th, After offering the same services at the same tariffs in Rodrigues, Emtel now extends its network to Agalega, where for the first time ever, Agaleans will have access to mobile telephony. When sending e-mails, chatting, posting on blogs or in forums
When we communicate electronically, all we see is a computer screen. We have to remember that there is a real person at the other end receiving our messages and that we need to use proper words and a proper tone. Very often the interposition of a machine makes our communications very impersonal so we tend to forget that our correspondent is a person with feelings.
Here are some points you have to pay attention to while communicating through the net:
Do not use abusive language. You may hurt the person you are talking to and providers may block your account.
Do not write in capital letters. It may look like you are shouting. You have to keep in mind that written words are very hard to interpret. That's why many people now use emoticons to avoid confusion.
Be careful when sharing confidential information. Ensure that you are sharing the right content with the right user, that your e-mail is reaching the right person and that nobody will intercept it. If private information is posted in a group setting, read the guidelines prior to posting.
Do not flame or send spams. Since you wouldn't like to be flamed or to receive spams, do not do it to others.
Respect the privacy of others. Just like you would never go through the drawers of your colleague, you shouldn't read his e-mails.
Don't abuse of power. In cyberspace, some people may have more power than others (experts or system administrators). This does not give you the right to take advantage of the situation. For example, system administrators should never read private e-mails of their colleagues.

Respect copyright. It is against the law to copy-paste a text found on the net. The writer may sue you for plagiarism. Internet is a significant tool for students and other people who have projects to submit. It is true that we find all the information that we need on the net but we have to be careful to use this information as reference and not just copy the work of someone else.
Kids Policy
Parents should pay attention to their kids when the latter use the Internet.
Explain to them the dangers to which they are exposed when chatting, blogging or going on forums.
Use child block software to have a better view on what your children are doing on the net. It is important also to have an eye on the chat rooms they go to. These should correspond to their age.
Recommend your children never to use their real name. Prefer online names for more safety. You should also ask them never to reveal their address or their school and explain to their why it can be dangerous. They should also never accept a meeting with a stranger, even if the latter says he is a child.

Safe Driving
Most people appreciate the advantages of having their mobile phone with them in the car. Mobiles provide safety and security, especially when out alone or at night. But using a hand-held phone while driving is distracting and can be very dangerous.
Just follow this simple advice and you can stay in touch on the move in complete safety.
Using your mobile safely on the road:
Never use a hand-held phone while driving. It can be dangerous.
Don't dial and drive. If you need to ring someone, pull over first. You can't keep an eye on the road and the keypad at the same time.
Save the call until later. Use your Voicemail service to save calls until later, when you've parked or finished the journey. It's easy to use and a great way to ensure you won't miss any important messages.
If in doubt pull over. Hands-free devices may be better than holding the phone in your hand but the call itself can still be distracting. You should still take the time to stop the car safely.
Never try to use text, picture or Internet services while driving. Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel.

Work in a sound environment
Nowadays, everybody would say that it is impossible for them to carry out their businesses without their mobile phone. But you agree that even on your place of work a mobile phone may be disturbing and distracting for you and your colleagues.
Using your mobile phone at work:
When entering a meeting, ensure that your mobile is switched off or put on silent mode. Even when left on vibration mode it could be heard by other participants in the meeting which is just as annoying as hearing a ringtone. When this happens you have to excuse yourself and refuse the call. Meetings are part and parcel of business and colleagues and clients are used to that. You will not be losing any business just because you were unavailable for an hour. To be on the safe side, you can just update your voicemail message explaining that you are currently in a meeting and can't take calls but that you'll return any calls as soon as the meeting is over. If you have absolutely no choice, have the courtesy to explain to the people attending the meeting that you will have to take a particular call, and when the latter comes in, discreetly excuse yourself from the room. Explain to your caller that you are in a meeting and that you will have to keep it brief.
While attending or making a presentation you are also required to switch off your mobile for the same reasons as stated above.
It also happens quite often that people attending job interviews do not switch off their mobile phone. This may not be appreciated by your future employer and shows a lack of consideration for him on your part.

Recycle We take responsibility for the proper recycling and disposal of hardware and paper waste that we generate. All ink cartridges at Emtel, whether inkjet or laser are collected and sent for proper recycling on a monthly basis. Paper waste is also collected and sent to a paper recycling company. Moreover, we are moving towards a paperless office.
All Emtel showrooms will soon be equipped with special boxes designed to collect used phone batteries. Members of the public as well as Emtel customers are most welcome to drop their batteries in those boxes. These will be sent to a recyling company where they will be disposed of in an environment-friendly manner.
Save Energy The EmtelWorld building has been designed to save on lighting and air conditioning.
Emtel is actually looking into ways and means to use solar-powered cell sites. We will soon introduce solar-powered signage to show our commitment.

Protect the Environment We also have projects in the pipeline in view of beautifying our cell sites. We have already moved in this direction with 20 cell sites in the form of palm trees.
More anti-pollution and energy-saving projects are coming up as we intend to contribute as much as possible to making our country a healthy place to live in.

2. What is the impact on my BlackBerry? The new DST may not be programmed in to your BlackBerry, and which may create issues with your appointments and time settings.

Impact on the BlackBerry device calendar
1. Will appointments on my BlackBerry calendar be affected? Yes, appointments with a start date falling within the affected period may display incorrectly.
2. Which of my appointments might be affected? Any single or recurring appointments that start within the affected period may display incorrectly.
3. Would a recurring appointment started during the affected period last year display incorrectly? Yes. Even if the recurring appointment started during the affected period in previous years, the start and end times may display incorrectly during the affected period this year. In some cases, all instances of this appointment will display incorrectly throughout the entire year.
4. What happens when my BlackBerry synchronizes its calendar with my email client, or with my computer calendar through BlackBerry Desktop Manager? In both situations your appointments and reminders may display incorrectly on your BlackBerry during the affected periods.
5. Do I need to update my appointments manually during the affected periods if I've updated my BlackBerry through our BES? Yes. Appointments created using the old DST rules or before the update was applied will appear one hour behind in the BlackBerry calendar. Appointments created using the new DST rules on updated computers and BlackBerry devices will display correctly.
6. Is there a way to make all appointments appear correctly on my BlackBerry? No.

Note for BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) users If you run your BlackBerry as a stand-alone device to connect directly to your ISP-based email, you can't update its software. The only solution is to manually change your BlackBerry's clock, as outlined above.
7. Can I update my BlackBerry using BlackBerry Connect software? Yes. A BlackBerry with BlackBerry Connect sets its clock from the operating system it connects with. Contact your computer supplier to check on DST software updates.

How to set a Call Divert for a Postpaid Customer?
To configure your Voicemail, you first need to configure the Call Divert function on your mobile.
How to activate Call Divert?
From your phone, go to "Menu", "Phone Settings ", "Call Divert" (see example for Nokia below)
Select "Voice Calls". From there, you can choose in which cases you want to divert your calls. You will be able to choose from: - All voice calls - If busy - If not answered - If out of reach - If not available

Step 2 You will have to enter your new Pin Code and press # To confirm your Pin code, type it again and press #

Step 4 You can have different greetings for local and international calls. Record your local Voicemail personal greeting message and press #. Example: You have reached the Voicemail of John. Please leave a message after the tone. Press * to cancel the operation.

You can now have your fax messages sent on your Emtel number. You will be alerted via SMS.

Step 2 You will receive a text message informing you that a fax has arrived.

"Distributor" means any Supplier, aggregator or other third party that may provide the Service to you on our behalf; "Information" means all material delivered by Emtel through the mobile and/or SMS and/or Website Site services; "Network Operator" means Emtel Ltd; "Service(s)" means any mobile/SMS/Website service provided by Emtel (whether alone or in conjunction with its Suppliers); "Emtel", "us", "our" means Emtel Ltd with its principal place of business at Ebene Cybercity, Ebene; "you", "your", "yourself" means you, the service end user or Emtel Subscriber; and "Website" means the Emtel Website (www.emtel-ltd.com) accessed via the internet.
3.0 PERSONAL AND NON-COMMERCIAL USE LIMITATION
Unless otherwise specified, Emtel Website is for the subscriber personal and non-commercial use. The website may not be used for any other purpose including without limitation, publication, reproduction or transmission nor provided to any other person and you are not permitted to amend any of the contents of the website or service(s) unless expressly permitted by us.
All rights not expressly granted are reserved to us and our licensors as appropriate.
4.0 NO UNLAWFUL OR PROHIBITED USE

Are my bills private? Yes. It is our policy to respect customer privacy. The collection of personal information online is designed to protect access to accounts. All personal information collected and stored by Emtel Ltd. is used for specific business purposes to protect and administer your account and transactions.
How secure is your e-bill? To access your account you have a username and password unique to yourself. The Emtel Ecare service also utilises a 128 bit SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate. This provides an encrypted link between the Emtel Ecare service and your browser. Once the link is established all communication between the service and your browser will remain confidential.
Can I access my bills at work and at home? Yes, your account can be accessed using any Internet connection by entering your mobile number and your password.

Qu’est-ce qu’un Gift SMS ? Un Gift SMS est un SMS que vous offrez en cadeau. C’est à dire que votre correspondant peut répondre gratuitement à votre SMS.
Qu’est-ce qu’un Collect SMS ? Un Collect SMS est un SMS qui a été lu et payé par celui à qui vous avez envoyé ce SMS. Un Collect SMS non lu est un SMS qui n’a pas été accepté par le destinataire. (Il/Elle n’accepte pas de payer pour le SMS ou n’a pas encore vu qu’il a reçu un Collect SMS.)
Que se passe-t-il si je réponds à un Gift SMS avec un SMS de plus de 148 caractères ? Les caractères supplémentaires seront envoyés à votre correspondant dans un Collect SMS.

Si j’ai un total de 4 Collect SMS non lus, est-ce que je peux toujours envoyer des Gift SMS ? Oui. Ce sont deux différents services.
Quelle est la validité d’un Gift SMS et d’un Collect SMS ? Un Gift SMS et un Collect SMS ont une période de validité de 24 heures. Passé ce délai, les SMS seront effacés du système.
Que se passe-t-il si le numéro de téléphone de mon correspondant n’est pas un numéro Emtel ? Le service ne fonctionnera pas. Vous recevrez un SMS vous indiquant que vous avez utilisé un numéro invalide. Pour les Gift SMS, le prix du SMS sera quand même déduit de votre compte.
Est-ce que le service fonctionne aussi en « roaming » ? Oui. Mais des coûts additionnels seront applicables dépendant du pays.

How Emtel EPin works?
Visit the nearest authorised Emtel EPin retailer & Choose which amount you want.
You can buy any amount between Rs. 20 & Rs. 1,000 in a single recharge transaction. Note that the amount you pay will include the VAT chargeable.
For e.g.: If you request a Rs. 100 recharge, you will get Rs. 86.95 as prepaid credits and Rs. 13.05 will be charged as VAT.
Give your mobile number and the amount you wish to recharge to the retailer.
Our Emtel EPin retailer will use his mobile handset equipped with the EPin system to recharge your prepaid account. You must give your mobile number so that he can send the credits on your number. The retailer will also ask you to confirm the amount and number before sending you the credits.
You will get a confirmation by SMS if the recharge is successful.
The SMS will indicate the amount of recharge you have requested, the amount credited to your prepaid account and the VAT amount charged. That's It, You're Done!
Useful Tips
Ensure that you are at an authorized Emtel EPin retailer before you buy credits.
To make sure you give your proper phone number to the retailer, dial *111#. Your number will then appear on your phone screen and you can show it to the retailer.
Check your balance before and immediately after recharge by dialling *122#. Call our Customer Care on 4989898 if you did not receive any recharge.
Verify if the SMS you receive is from the following number +8746. This is the ONLY number of the Emtel EPin System.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which amounts of recharge are available? The minimum amount you can purchase is Rs.20 worth of credit (i.e. credit + VAT amount) up to a maximum of Rs.1, 000 (credit + VAT included). You can only purchase recharge in whole amount in rupees and NOT in cents. Note that the amount you request will already include the VAT. 15% of the amount will be deducted as VAT and the remaining will be recharged on your prepaid account as credits.
Is it possible to have a recharge of more than Rs.1, 000? Yes in that case the EPin retailer will recharge your account first with Rs.1, 000 (including VAT) and any additional top ups until the amount requested is met.
How long is the E-Pin recharge valid for? 15 days for any amount between Rs. 20 & Rs.49. 30 days for any amount between Rs.50 & Rs.124. 90 days for any amount between Rs.125 & Rs.1, 000.
Can I recharge my account through Emtel EPin when I am abroad ? Yes* you can.

OVERVIEW The Nokia 1600 is an entry-level phone. It looks smart with its chrome detailing and compact size. Its very lightweight too. The keypad is reasonably easy to use, despite the numbers being split into two sections, and there's a nice 4-way scroll key. The user interface is graphical, simple to use, and makes good use of the small colour display. A good first phone, or a phone for someone wanting just the basics. Battery life is excellent, but storage for phone numbers and SMS messages is limited. The phone has MP3 ringtones, but don't expect too much from these!

The user can share their photographs with others using the MMS messaging service, email or Bluetooth® wireless technology. The Nokia 2630 is a simplistic looking handset which comes with easy to use features & the built in capabilities will suit most mobile phone user's needs.

Quick Tips before Roaming
Check your roaming service status and ensure that you have no outstanding payment in order to avoid service interruption while roaming
Check whether the country you are visiting supports Emtel roaming service
Find out what the network frequency is in the country you intend to visit as roaming in different countries may require different GSM standard mobile phones. Please note the following:
Roaming in a GSM900/GSM1800 network requires the use of dual band mobile phones
Roaming in a GSM1900 network requires the use of tri-band mobile phones
Make sure your mobile phone's Network Selection is set to 'Automatic' mode. This is to ensure that you will not have any problem staying connected. So when you're in a foreign country, just switch on your mobile phone and it will automatically search for a network, based on signal strength. For information on Network Selection setting, please refer to your mobile phone's manual as setting procedures of mobile phones differ from one to another
Please make sure that "Call Barring Outgoing" and "Call Barring Incoming" for international calls are not active so that you can make and receive international calls while roaming. All incoming calls answered will be billed at IDD rates

To start roaming, you just have to activate your mobile phone and select your preferred roaming network. You can do this automatically or manually by following the instructions on your phone menu. Remember that you can only select the networks of operators with whom Emtel has established roaming agreements.

Why do I need to fill-in the carrier pre-selection form? If you do not fill-in the form, you will not be able to make international calls using '00' or '+'. Even if you have pre-selected EmtelWorld, you can still use another ILD operator on a call-by-call basis by using '0X0' access codes.
What will happen if I do not fill in the carrier pre-selection form? As from the 1st of July 2004, all calls effected using '00' or '+' will not be processed and you will hear an announcement asking you to contact your access provider to pre-select a carrier or use a '0X0' access code.
You can fill-in the form after the 1st of July 2004, you will then be able to dial IDD calls using '00' or '+'.
Can I cancel this pre-selection at any time? You can cancel a pre-selection at any time by sending a letter to this effect to Emtel. This will not infringe on your rights to have any other carrier pre-selected at any other time.
Can I pre-select EmtelWorld from a fixed line (MT), or another mobile operator? Yes, you can from a fixed line (MT) and MTML.
Can I choose another ILD operator as default carrier? If yes, how can I do it? Yes, you have to contact the other ILD operator, as we do not know what their conditions for provision of ILD services are.
Can an Emtel subscriber use an EmtelWorld pre-selection form to pre-select another ILD operator? No, subscriber must use a form from the desired ILD operator.
How is the billing done for ILD calls handled by other ILD operators? In some cases, billing is done by Emtel (e.g. for I-Telecom), but in most cases the billing is done by the other ILD operator. In this case, you will receive a bill from Emtel for your mobile calls (including the local airtime for the IDD calls) and a second bill from the ILD operator.
What is the difference between 0X0 and 320 xxxx numbers? 0X0 numbers have been assigned for Conventional IDD calls and 320 xxxx for Internet Telephony.
What is the difference between Internet Telephony and Conventional Telephony? The Quality of Service cannot be guaranteed on Internet Telephony as it goes through a network over which the carrier/ILD operator does not have control. Conventional Telephony uses direct links between carriers and thus the carriers can control the quality.

For e.g.: If you request a Rs. 100 recharge, you will get Rs. 86.95 as prepaid credits and Rs. 13.05 will be charged as VAT.
Give your mobile number and the amount you wish to recharge to the retailer.
Our Emtel EPin retailer will use his mobile handset equipped with the EPin system to recharge your prepaid account. You must give your mobile number so that he can send the credits on your number. The retailer will also ask you to confirm the amount and number before sending you the credits.
You will get a confirmation by SMS if the recharge is successful.

Ensure that you are at an authorized Emtel EPin retailer before you buy credits.
To make sure you give your proper phone number to the retailer, dial *111#. Your number will then appear on your phone screen and you can show it to the retailer.
Check your balance before and immediately after recharge by dialling *122#. Call our Customer Care on 4989898 if you did not receive any recharge.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which amounts of recharge are available? The minimum amount you can purchase is Rs.20 worth of credit (i.e. credit + VAT amount) up to a maximum of Rs.1, 000 (credit + VAT included). You can only purchase recharge in whole amount in rupees and NOT in cents. Note that the amount you request will already include the VAT. 15% of the amount will be deducted as VAT and the remaining will be recharged on your prepaid account as credits.
Is it possible to have a recharge of more than Rs.1, 000? Yes in that case the EPin retailer will recharge your account first with Rs.1, 000 (including VAT) and any additional top ups until the amount requested is met.
How long is the E-Pin recharge valid for? 15 days for any amount between Rs. 20 & Rs.49. 30 days for any amount between Rs.50 & Rs.124. 90 days for any amount between Rs.125 & Rs.1, 000.

What do I need to do to enjoy 3G services? You will need to be on Emtel’s 3G network with a 3G handset/data card having a 3G activated SIM card to enjoy 3G services.
Where can I buy a 3G phone? You can purchase a 3G phone at our customer care in Rose Hill and any of our showrooms.
Can I use my 3G phone if there is no 3G coverage? Yes. You will be able to log on to Emtel 2G/2.5G network.
Can I communicate with my friends who are not on 3G? Yes. Communication between 3G network and 2G network are supported. You can call/sms/mms your friends who are not on 3G as usual.
I am an existing customer. Do I need to change my SIM card to enjoy 3G services? No. You just need to activate 3G on your SIM Card.
What's the difference between Video Streaming and Video Downloads? With video streaming the video file remains on the server, the initial part of the video is copied to a buffer on your 3G phone and than after a short delay, starts to play and continues as the rest of the file is being pulled down. The video will not be stored in your phone.
With video downloads, the entire video file is downloaded and stored in your phone before you will be able to view the video.

Introducing Emtel Wimax
Emtel, the leader in mobile technology in Mauritius, is offering the best internet technology through Emtel Wimax to professionals and businesses alike. A separate and dedicated DATA network has been created for Emtel Wimax so as to provide the best quality of service as possible.
How does it work? Emtel Wimax offers a fixed wireless connection for subscribers. The service is offered through an external antenna which is connected to an indoor unit through an Ethernet cable. The external antenna is wirelessly connected to an Emtel Wimax base station.
From the indoor unit, the customer has the possibility to make his own network using a router. A wired or wireless network can be created depending on the type of router used.

Emtel Wimax Business is an internet service which allows for Committed Information Rates "CIR". This means that, unlike a shared Internet service, Emtel provides capacity, equivalent to the amount of CIR you have chosen, within the Wimax base station you are connected to, for your internet needs only. Henceforth, the number of customers on the Emtel Wimax network will have no effect on your CIR.
Emtel Wimax VPN allows for the setting up of a Virtual Private Network (VPN), within which information can be exchanged in a private and secured way among various branches/offices of a company. It is a Point to Multipoint system. This means that no matter how many branches you connect via the VPN, you will still only need one antenna at your Head Office/IT centre.

How do I use video calling?
Making a video call When you and your friend both have 3G mobiles and are in 3G coverage, Video Calling each other is as simple as voice calling. Just dial. The only difference is you press the Video Call button instead of the voice call button. Then hold your mobile in front of you, and watch your screen. You'll know you're within Emtel 3G coverage because your mobile will show a little 3G symbol.
Receiving a video call If someone Video Calls you while you're in coverage, your mobile shows an icon on your mobile screen. To answer, press the Video Call button. You can even turn the camera off and have a normal voice call if you'd rather not be seen! Charges Prices are same as for a voice call so enjoy sharing those special moments in real time!
International Video Calls Now you can even see your friends and family when you or they are abroad. Video calls are available even in roaming. Take the dear ones with you in holidays or work trips and keep them close as if you were besides them.

FAQ
What do I need to be able to use Video Calling? You need a 3G mobile, 3G coverage and activated 3G access.
Why can I make a normal voice call to my friend's Video Calling mobile, but not a Video Call? You or your friend is probably out of 3G coverage.
I have the 3G coverage symbol on my mobile, but my Video Calls keep on getting the message "Call Failed" – why? If both you and the other party are in 3G coverage, you may have a Video Calling bar on your account. Please call customer services for assistance. Otherwise, there may be very heavy network congestion.
Why can't I make a Video Call even though I'm within 3G coverage? This may be because of any of the following:
The person you are calling does not have a 3G Video Calling capable mobile
The person you are calling is not within 3G coverage
The person you are calling has his mobile switched off
The person you have called is already on a Video Call

Emtel Missed Call Alert
Emtel Missed Call Alert prompts subscribers on any calls that did not reach them due to 'busy', 'unreachable' or 'phone switched-off' instances.
MCA will keep track of all missed calls and collect caller numbers, time, and date of call. Subscribers will be alerted on the missed call via SMS.
How to activate MCA? (Prepaid and postpaid)
Just send MCA R by SMS to 8888 and you're done! You will receive an SMS to confirm activation of the service.

FAQs
Will I receive MCA SMS if the caller has activated CLIR? If CLIR is activated, MCA SMS will display missed call from "anonymous" for postpaid and prepaid users. If you have activated voicemail, you will get the caller party number in the MCA SMS even if the caller has activated CLIR.
Will I receive MCA SMS for international missed calls? For international missed call, MCA SMS will include the CLI if available. When not available, "anonymous" will be displayed.
If my phone remains switched off for one week, will I receive all MCA SMS? No. Only missed calls from the last 24 hours will be available.
What happens if I have less than Rs. 10 on my prepaid account on the day I will be charged for the service? MCA service will be suspended for a period of 30 days. It can be reactivated automatically anytime during those 30 days provided that you recharge your account. The monthly fee will then be deducted.
If you recharge your account after 30 days, you will have to register again to be able to use the service.
Can I use MCA and voicemail at the same time? Yes. If the caller hangs up before the end of the voicemail message and beep sound, you will receive a MCA SMS and no voicemail SMS.
If caller hangs up after the beep or after leaving his voice message, no MCA SMS will be sent. You will receive voicemail SMS only.
If voicemail has been cancelled on your mobile, you will not receive any MCA SMS.
If only one function of voicemail has been cancelled, e.g. no reply function, you will receive no MCA SMS for "no reply" cases.

2005
Emtel introduces Emtel Caller Tunes which allows customers to personalize their phones by choosing a song to welcome their friends and relatives calling them.
2006
